A mixed media painting on paper of a child by Aníbal Villacís (Ecuador; 1927 – 2012). The work depicts a stylized portrait of a child holding a doll, portrayed with layered colors in acrylic, watercolor, and ink. Signed in paint to the bottom right. Presented in an ornate black and gold-tone wooden frame.
Born in Ecuador, Aníbal Villacís spent his early years teaching himself how to paint and draw by studying bullfighting illustrations around the city. Eventually former President of Ecuador Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra discovered Villacís and offered him a scholarship to study in Europe. Mostly known for his mixed media compositions, Villacís created portraits, landscapes, and bullfighting scenes. His work has been displayed internationally including a permanent display at the Art Museum of the Americas.
Condition
- some wear and scratches on frame; frame could benefit from cleaning; some warping to the paper; to the verso some water stains to the protective backing.
