19th-Century Fischer J. Reticulated and Embossed Ewer

A 19th-century Fischer J. embossed ceramic ewer, Budapest, Hungary. Ivory colored glazed with embossed and gilt floral motif throughout. Ribbed, bulbous form top with a heavily reticulated handle and embossed flora medallions appearing throughout. The body of of the ewer is shell form with a reticulated pedestal base. Cobalt stamp present to the underside.
Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
