19th-Century Fischer J. Reticulated Ceramic Centerpiece Bowl

A 19th-century Fischer J. ceramic centerpiece bowl, Budapest, Hungary. Hand painted with polychrome enamel and gilt decoration featuring floral and boteh motif with a painted interior floral scene. Reticulated godroons scroll up either side of the horizontal with a reticulated and embossed collar. Marked to the underside of the footed base with a cobalt stamp and impressed mark.

Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
