19th-Century Fischer J. Reticulated Ceramic Figural Console Bowl

A 19th-century Fischer J. ceramic ewer, Budapest, Hungary. Hand painted polychrome enamel decoration with two winged cherubs figurals flanking either side of the bowl. The bowl appears with a reticulated flared rim with embossed design throughout and gilt floral decoration. Pedestal base with reticulation and scrolled feet. Marked to the interior of the base with a cobalt stamp.

Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
