An oil painting on canvas titled Brown Trees by listed American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), created in 1978. This work features an abstract landscape with a few lush trees, portrayed with various green and brown hues. The artist’s name, title, and date are handwritten to the canvas verso. The composition is presented without glass under brown board matting, and housed in a black wood frame. A few descriptive labels from Cincinnati Art Galleries, Inc. are present to the verso. The composition is accompanied by an exhibition brochure about the artist from the Cincinnati Art Galleries.
Edgar Hatten was known for painting abstract still lives and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
