A varnished oil painting on board by American/Australian artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990). The painting depicts a sullen figure in dark tones. Signed Edgar Hatten on the verso and dated 1962. Presented matted with plastic covering.

Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
