19th-Century Italian Brocade Embroidery Madonna and Child
Item Details
A 19th-century Italian brocade embroidery with gold and color thread of the Madonna and Child resembles the Nativity scene. The Virgin Mary appears in her blue mantle kneeling with hands in prayer to the infant Jesus as he lies in a cradle of straw. An angel is overhead holding a banner with text. The scene takes places in a classical architectural space and to the top is stylized Italian script. Orange, blue and green fringe is present to the edges. To the verso, is a printed label from the ‘Bergstrom Art Center and Museum,’ however does not appear accurate.
EBTH certifies this item is from the private collection of personal property formerly owned by Dr. Robert H. Schuller.
Condition
-fringe loss around the edges; some threads coming loose; soiling to the cloth throughout.
