An oil painting on canvas titled Solar Shot by celebrated American artist Sidney Gross (1921-1969), created in 1966. Portrayed with a vibrant palette, this Abstract Expressionist work features gestural brushstrokes and smeared splotches of color juxtaposed with geometric shapes and large flat planes of color. The work is signed to the lower left; it is also signed, titled, and dated to the canvas verso. Presented in a gold-tone wood frame. An envelope with information about the artist is included to the verso.
Sidney Gross is known for his Abstract Expressionist paintings and busy architectural landscapes portrayed with vibrant colors. He attended the Art Students League in New York and taught there in the 1960s. Although he died at a young age, his work has been exhibited at numerous renowned art institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, among many others.
