Melanesian Tribal Wood Mask

Item Details

A Melanesian tribal wood mask. This oblong mask is decorated with cowrie shells and tusks, possibly from a boar. It is concave, with a nose-like painted and carved staff across the front and a handle at the base. Embellishments include painted brows beginning as circles around protrubing ‘eyes.’ The mask does not have holes for eyes, nose, or mouth. It includes a cord at the top for hanging.
