Ace Powell Original Oil Painting on Canvas
Item Details
An original oil painting on linen canvas depicting a Native American man wearing a red striped blanket, by artist Asa Lynn “Ace” Powell (American, 1912-1978). The painting is signed to the lower left, ‘Powell’, along with the artist’s personal mark, a playing card depicting the ace of diamonds. It is presented in a rustic wood frame with a hanging wire on the back.
Ace Powell was a painter, a watercolorist, etcher and sculptor. Greatly influenced by the work of Charles M. Russell, Powell favored western genre scenes of indians, cowboys, horses, and wildlife. Though mostly self-taught, Powell studied at the University of Montana in Missoula, and produced thousands of works of art over his lifetime. The Ace Powell Award is presented by the Western Art Association of Ellensburg to artists who have made significant contributions to western art, and was named for Asa Powell.
