A hand-colored lithograph by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema after an original oil painting titled Spring. It depicts a classical Roman celebration of spring with crowds cheering a procession of people descending a flight of steps. It is signed in the plate ‘L. Alma Tadema Op CCCXXVI’ to the base of a pillar to the center left and ‘Colored by W. W. Hall’ to the lower left. The print is mounted under glass in an ornate gilded and carved wood frame with a flat pediment top and pilaster side pieces. The frame is wired for hanging.
Condition
- chips in gesso decoration on frame at top and bottom left edges and top and bottom right edges; general wear to edges of frame due to age; gap at top between print and frame.
