Antique Independent Order of Odd Fellows Fraternal Swords
Item Details
A set of two antique Independent Order of Odd Fellows fraternal swords and scabbards. The collection includes a Patriarchs Militant Fraternal sword with an ornate guard and a brown grip with a decorative wire wrap. The scabbard is included and is marked “Pax Aut Bellum”. The Patriarchs Militant fraternal order was first established in the United States circa 1841. The organization is a branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) and considered Uniformed Ranks. The sword was made in Columbus, Ohio by M.C Lilley & CO. Also including is an Odd Fellows fraternal sword with decorative embellishments and etchings throughout the sword and scabbard. The ricasso shows a walking bear maker’s mark of German origin. Both swords are accompanied by leather carrying cases.

- markings and wear present throughout; consistent with age and use; damage and wear to sleeve; tip broken off of one sword; significant rust and tarnish present; wrap on grip is unraveled.
