An original oil painting on canvas titled Zuni Pot Ca. 1890 by Dallas artist David Herriott (1930-2010). Born in Chicago, Herriot attended the University of Illinois, Chicago Art Institute and the American Academy of Art. During the 1950s he served in the U.S. military and eventually settled in Texas where he painted and designed furniture for industrial spaces. The work depicts a late 19th century painted Zuni vessel against a stark black matte gessoed canvas. A single ethereal light source illuminates the top of the pot while the rest of the piece is cast in shadow. Signed to the lower right corner, the work is presented on a gallery wrapped canvas, dated 6-1-88 and signed to its verso. The piece is wired to its back for hanging.
