An oil painting on canvas titled Walking in Charleston by listed artist William Benecke (United States; 1934 – 2001). The work depicts an architectural scene with the tower of the St. Philips Church to the background. Signed by the artist to the lower right corner. Housed in a gold-tone wood frame with a linen liner. To the verso is a descriptive and biographical label.
William Benecke was born in 1934 in Chicago, Illinois and had his formal art training at the Art Institute of Chicago. He worked as an illustrator for several major studios in Chicago and also worked as a staff illustrator for the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times. When he was 24, he traveled to Mexico and lived there for ten years during which time he painting and running his own gallery. Benecke is known for his landscapes, garden scenes, and portraits.
