Art Pottery Urn with Wizard and Water Jars

Item Details

A hand thrown and decorated stoneware art pottery urn with a wizard. The urn has a tapered bulbous form, with tiered shoulder and embossed rim. It has been finished with underglazes and washes and has a bisqued finish, with carbon marking to the underside. The urn features to one side a textured and dimensional wizard flying through the air, with a water jar in one hand, pouring water throughout the star-sprinkled blue sky, with a saber in the other. Applied water jars are to one side, with streams of water turning into the wizard’s beard. Below the wizard is a depiction of an ancient city. On the other side is a man praying atop a rounded hill. The urn is marked to the lower edge with an embossed potter’s mark, ‘CW’.
