Early 20th Century Stainer Copy Violin

Item Details

An early 20th-century Stainer copy violin, produced circa 1920. The violin has a spruce top, flame maple ribs and a flame maple two-piece back. The back is branded ‘Stainer’ below the neck; it is accompanied by an interior label reading ‘Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oenipontum 1636’ to the bass side and a separate label reading ‘Hope Violin, R. Tillery’ to the treble side. The violin has an ebony fingerboard and rosewood pegs. Included is a half-lined wood bow and a hard case with burgundy felt interior.

Condition

- to Fair; surface scratching and damage to varnish; open seam to the lower bout; bow will need rehairing; the violin was not inspected by a professional luthier.
