A limited edition serigraph on paper titled Vega by famed Hungarian/ French painter Victor Vasarely (1906-1997), executed ca. 1980. Vasarely is known as the Father of Op Art. His kinetic paintings use geometric forms to play on the relationship between color and surface so that the eye perceives a sort of fluctuating movement that invokes an optical and emotional response. The contrast between white and black alternate in a graphical way creating a checkered appearance. Signed to the lower right in graphite. Titled and numbered edition 102 of 150 to the lower left. Presented beneath glass, housed in a black-painted wood panel frame from Glosson’s.

Victor Vasarely was born in Hungary in 1906, as Gyözö Vásárhelyi, and moved to Paris in 1930. He became a successful graphic artist creating abstracted forms by utilizing independent geometric forms that lead to image patterns with kinetic effect and fluctuating movement. He is often referred to the Father of Op Art for this reason. Vasarely once said, “The art of tomorrow will be a collective treasure or it will not be art at all.’ He designed the official logo for the XX. Olympics in Munich and has two museums in his name including one in his city of birth, Pécs, and a second one in the castle Zichy in Budapest.
