An oil painting on panel full length portrait of a young French gentleman after an original painting by listed Bavarian-American artist Ignaz Gaugengigl (1855-1932), originally executed in 1880. A finely dress man appears on a street side with his curled wood cane. He is depicted with red and white striped stockings, tan pantaloons, a yellow and black striped vest,a blue tailcoat, white cravat, and black hat. A poster on the wall behind the man is signed by the French politician and influential member of the French revolution, Maximilien Robespierre. The painting is a fine copy of Gaugengigl’s original work. Signed to the lower right as Gaugengigl and dated 1879. Presented without glass, housed in gold toned Closson’s frame with shell form corner moulding.
