A circa 1900 Emile Gallé. (French 1846-1904) Art Nouveau cameo glass vase, signed. The cameo glass vase is in ovoid form illustrating a spray of flowers and leaves in low relief in shades of plum and gray on a taupe matte background. A high shoulder ascends to a short straight neck and oval mouth, the vase is signed by the artist on the right side. A small sticker affixed to the bottom indicates the vase was purchased in Paris, 1968.
Emile Gallé was an important figure in the development of the Art Nouveau movement. After winning a Grand Prix at the Paris Exhibition in 1889, his art glass was highly sought by both museums and collectors alike. In 1900 he founded Ecole de Nancy to promote and preserve the aesthetics of the Art Nouveau movement while advocating the importance of a collaboration between art and industry. He remained president of the school until his death in 1904.

No chips or cracks, slight scratches to the bottom surface.
