1856 German Bronze Holy Water Font Signed
Item Details
A German bronze holy water font modeled by J. Weirich, molded by L. Butsheck, and cast by K. Hohman in 1856. Two central figures appear in a niche beneath a Gothic style pointed arch with trefoil window tracery and the monogram for Jesus Christ, IHS. The winged figure comforts a woman with his embrace and with the cross in his other hand he casts down the dragon slithering below their pedestal; a possible representation of St. George. The bronze is signed to the verso in German and dated.
