19th Century Ethiopian Vellum Ge'ez Prayer Book with Cover
Item Details
A 19th century Ethiopian vellum prayer book with a coptic binding. The book is hand written in Ge’ez, a language no longer used with the exception of liturgical services in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The vellum pages have each been scored with a pin then written in black with certain words written in red, most likely holy names. The wooden covers are very well worn (the back cover split with an ancient repair, and the book has been kept in the original fitted leather pouch with a shoulder strap.
EBTH certifies this item is from the private collection of personal property formerly owned by Dr. Robert H. Schuller.
Condition
- the book is intact but pages are worn and some water stained. The leather pouch has a loose seam.
