Evelyn Marx 1962 Limited Edition Woodblock "Hagar's Children"

An original 1960 limited edition color woodblock print on paper by listed Cincinnati artist Evelyn Marx (1901 – 1996), titled Hagar’s Children. The print depicts three anonymous figures carrying baskets on their heads in the foreground, and an additional fourth figure in the distance. These figures wear long, black shrouds, concealing any shape or identifying features except for the eyes, as they wander through a flat, nondescript desert. The print is signed, titled, dated, and numbered 3/30 in pencil in the lower margin. The print is presented behind glass in a simple black composite frame, equipped to hang. Marx attended the Cincinnati Art Academy and is part of a family of artists well-known to Cincinnati locals.
