Jiki-Shippo Meiji Period Porcelain Vase

A Japanese porcelain vase with Jiki-Shippo decoration. This technique was difficult to achieve especially when producing the tree bark cloisonne’. found on this piece. This vase is decorated with a bird, flowers and leaves on the textured tree bark ground in brown, and decoration in iron-red and black enamels. The piece was produced during the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and is free from makers marks as was typical for these wares.

Condition

- one flower missing to side of vase; losses to the enamels at the rim.
