Collection of Hewell Family Terracotta Planters
Item Details
A grouping of five terracotta planters with carved decorations. This assortment of planters includes a variety of sizes and shapes, with different patterns and decorations including reeding and fluting, raked lines, oak leaves, and herons. The pots have drainage holes, and two are stamped with the Hewell Pottery maker’s mark, all made of clay local to the pottery.
Hewell Pottery in Gillsville, Georgia is family run and has been in operation for more than 150 years. The family locally mines and processes their red Georgia clay and use a tunnel kiln and wood kiln for firing to this day, with all pieces thrown by hand. - all five items have several minor cracks and a few chipped spots.
