Item Details
A signed mixed media watercolor by Israeli artist Itzchak Tarkay (Israeli, 1935 – 2012). This item is composed of black linework, printed using a lithographic process, that was then hand-painted by the artist himself. The scene depicts a cafe scene of a lone woman waiting, shown with an image of a gentleman in the background. It is signed ‘Tarkay’ on the lower right corner. The art is presented under glass with cream and green mats in a gold tone wood frame with moulded foliate detailing. It is ready to hang with a rear wire.
Born on the Yugoslav-Hungarian border Itzchak Tarkay and his family were sent to a concentration camp, and later immigrated to Israel where he graduated from the Avni Institute of Art and Design. He is recognized as a figurative artist, known for his mastery of the serigraph, with compositions filled with layers of rich color. His art tends to depict elegant women in an almost dream-like world.
