Royal Yeoman Warder "Beefeater" Figurine

A painted ceramic figurine depicting a ‘Beefeater’ soldier of the Yeomen Warders at the Tower of London, whose task is to protect the Crown Jewels and guard prisoners. The soldier wears a red uniform marked ‘E R’ for ‘Elizabeth Regina’ and wears a hat called a ‘Tudor bonnet.’ Item shows no maker’s marks. Up until the 1800s, the part of the Yeomen’s wages were sections of beef, hence the nickname ‘Beefeater.’
