Antique French Language Book Lot

A group of four antique French language volumes in hardcover. The first is a miniature volume of poetry and music titled L’Echo des Bardes, with engraved illustrations, gilded page edges, and a slip cover; the publisher and date of publication do not appear on the title page, but are written in pencil to the front flyleaf by a previous owner: Firmin Didot, 1815. Other volumes include three works by French novelist and Nobel Prize for Literature winner André Gide: Lafcadio (1923), Si le Grain ne Meurt (1924), and Le Retour de L’Enfant Prodigue, limited edition, illustrated with woodcuts by Louis Jou, undated.

- cover wear and paper discoloration varying by age; damage to the top of the spine of Si le Grain ne Meurt.
