Carved Mayan Warrior Mask

A Mayan wooden warrior mask. Carved from tropical wood, this piece features a victorious warrior in full battle regalia of a feathered head dress, beads and cloth, kneeling with the head of his vanquished foe held up for inspection. A panther figure appears to be coming from the top of the victim’s head, while an opened mouth snake slithers beneath. The figures are resting on a series of rectangular pieces lined in gold with a central, crescent moon figure with human face. The mask ends with an opened mouth Mayan warrior face with flanking adornments. The mask hangs with a wire to verso.
