An oil painting on canvas titled Still life with Jugs and Fruit by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), dated 1931. This work features a still life arrangement including jugs, bottle, and fruit surrounded by a wrinkled cloth on a table. The work is portrayed in brown hues with bursts of vibrant colors, thick dark outlines, and an overall sense of flatness throughout the composition. It is signed and dated by the artist to the lower right. Presented in a wood frame with a painted gilt finish. Informational ‘Cincinnati Art Galleries’ labels are affixed to the verso.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
