An original mid-19th-century oil painting on canvas by very well listed English painter John Hamilton Glass (1820 – 1885). The stunning pastoral landscape depicts a small group of cows grazing along the banks of a small river cutting through a wooded landscape. Tall, silhouetted trees rise along the water, and a yellow ambient glow coast the scene in light. The painting is signed in black to the lower left, and a small plaque to the frame’s base also gives the artist’s name. The painting is presented in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold-tone finish, and a hanging wire.
Condition
- significant craquelure and discoloration across. A few very small spots of inpainting to painting’s edges where frame has rubbed.
