An original early-19th-century oil painting on canvas. The painting depicts a charming pastoral landscape scene. A small herd of cows wade peacefully in a small body of water near a quaint farm. Several buildings line the farm’s edge, and a tree-covered hill rises in the background. A hazy yellow light shines across the idyllic scene. The painting is unsigned. It is presented in a wooden frame with cast Victorian surface embellishments and gold-tone finish. A hanging wire is attached to the verso.
Condition
- significant craquelure across. Blacklight technology reveals a few very small strokes of inpainting. Light cracking and a few small areas of loss to frame. Canvas is slightly loose within frame.
