Handwoven Navajo Wool Rug, Circa 1960s

Item Details

A handwoven Native American-made Navajo rug, circa 1960. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of rust red, coral, ivory, cream, and brown. It features a design similar to Navajo Wide Ruins rugs of the southwest, with geometric patterns arranged horizontally and without borders. This rug features two panels of three fused, cream-colored stepped polygons, each containing feathered medallions in coral, ivory, and brown, the feathering creating an electrified effect. The panels containing these motifs are separated by horizontal stripes in all of the palette colors. Edges are stitched, each corner featuring short braided-cord tassels in brown. The item is unmarked.
