A Mottahedeh Society of Cincinnati reproduction porcelain centerpiece bowl. The lobed form bowl is based on the 1786 Chinese Export pattern presented to George Washington with a blue and white transfer border incorporating the butterfly and fretwork design of the Fitzhugh pattern with the insignia of the Society of Cincinnati as designed by Pierre Charles L’Enfant. The order was founded in 1783 for American and French officers who served in the Continental Army and navy. Text to the verso notes that it is a Winterthur Museum adaptation and was crafted in Portugal.
