A beautiful oil painting that is believed to be that of Alice Estelle James. This oil painting features a landscape of a plush field with an interspersed grove of trees off in the distance. Signed in the bottom right hand corner. The painting is housed in a gold painted frame with beveled edge.
Alice Estelle James was well respected and known for her landscape and still life paintings. (1889 – 1970). This oil is housed in a wood frame with gold patina. (1889-1970) Alice James studied art privately with a number of important painters of her time beginning with Emil Carlsen in New York. In Europe she received instruction from Valentin Hennemann in Belgium and from Kate Holson Carpenter, an English artist, who had studied at the National Academy of Design in New York. She also studied with John Enneking and Margaret Fitzhugh Browne in Boston and with Emile Gruppe in Gloucester, Massachus.
