An original oil on canvas painting signed to the lower right hand corner by extremely gifted Chilean painter Dario Contreras (b.1902). Dario began his career in Santiago in 1918 upon entering the School of Fine Arts. His career was a successful one, and in 1953 saw him invited to Madrid by the Hispanic Cultural Institute. Thereafter he lived in Rome for two years. This painting is exemplary of an extremely talented painter. The artist has painted a fine portrait of a hispanic gentleman dressed in plain clothes with a large sack swung over his shoulder, and a hat on his head. Dated to the bottom right 1947. The painting is presented in a gessoed wooden frame with silver paint over top.
