Mid - Late 19th-Century Oil Portrait on Canvas of a Woman

An oil portrait on canvas of a woman, dated to the mid to late 19th-century. The piece depicts a woman in a half-length portrait, set in a Romantic exterior. She smiles at the viewer and holds a small bouquet in one hand. Unsigned by the artist, inscriptions to the verso attribute the work to an artist named ‘Frost’. To the verso are numerous numeric inscriptions and a faded label. Presented in a gilt and gesso frame with a fluted cove and a laurel-and-berry motif.

Condition

- craquelure; inpainting present but the face of the figure is clean, please refer to the photograph above for details on the extent of inpainting; canvas has been relined and strip lined; cracks to gesso molding on frame.
