An original Beth Hertz (Dayton/New York, b. 1920) geometric color block painting in water color and gouache on deckled paper in a black, gray and yellow palette. The painting is true to Hertz’s signature style where her abstract language merges with bold color and geometric shapes. While the painting is unsigned, it was attributed to the artist by Cincinnati Art Galleries. Beth Hertz studied with Stanton MacDonald-Wright and was influenced by early 20th-century Synchromism, a modernist American movement that explored the relationship between color and music. Hertz studied at the Art Students League in New York, the Dayton Art Institute, and received her MFA at Ohio University. Her paintings have been collected by museums as well as private and corporate collections in New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, Iowa and California.
