Thorvald Hagedorn-Olsen Oil Painting on Canvas "Model by the Window"
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas work by Thorvald Hadegorn-Olsen titled Model by the Window. A half-length figure of a nude woman dominates the left side of the composition. Behind her is a large window with a curtain hanging to one side. Framed in a molded wooden frame with a gold tone metallic finish.
Theodor Hagedorn-Olsen first studied in Copenhagen under Carl Thorpe (1923-24) and, subsequently, in Paris with Othon Friesz (1924-25). He then furthered his education in Arles at the time Monet was completing his series of water-lilies. Returning to Copenhagen, he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for a further three years (1926-29), continuing his travels and art education in Spain and Italy. An early European exponent of Modernist theory, Hagedorn-Olsen is known for monumental and sculptural figural works, dramatically composed and executed in a palette of saturated, complementary colors. The artist is well-listed in all relevant biographical dictionaries and his work may be found in the permanent collections of numerous public museums. We are pleased to offer this exceptional figural from the artist’s mature period.
Condition
