An oil on canvas painting by Thorvald Hagedorn-Olsen (Danish, 1902-1996). The work depicts a vivid landscape which focuses on open skies and flat plains. This painting has a row of blooming wild roses in the immediate foreground. The rest of the scene stretches into the distance beneath a blue sky with white clouds. The painting is signed in the lower left corner and is framed in an ornate gold tone frame.
Hagedorn-Olsen first studied in Copenhagen with Carl Thorpe (1923-24) and, subsequently, with Othon Friesz in Paris (1924-25). He furthered his art studies in Arles at the time Monet was completing his water-lilies series before returning to Copenhagen where he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for a further three years (1926-29). He later continued his travels and education in Spain and Italy.
Condition
Some chips of paint missing on frame; minor craquelure to surface.
