1816 Watercolor "Fishing Along lea River" by George Shepherd

An original watercolor by George Sidney Shepherd titled Fishing Along Lea River, signed and dated 1816 in the lower left corner. The watercolor illustrates in fine and exacting detail the River Lea with fishermen and an estate in the distance. The painting is hand lined and matted with a beige beveled edge, housed under glass in a gold wood frame. Please note a second watercolor by George Shepherd is offered as #17DCC056-224.

George Sidney Shepherd (English 1784-1862) is known for his topographical watercolor paintings of the English countryside. Shepherd received his early art education at the Dr. Cox Macro’s Sketching Academy and later was a founding member of the New Society of Painters in Watercolors which was initially formed due to the Royal Academies refusal to recognize watercolor as an important contribution to art.
