Antique Walnut Chest of Drawers, Circa Late 1800s

Item Details

An antique walnut chest from the late 1800s. This petite chest features an oversized top with panel design and beveled edge over three drawers including carved escutcheons and cup handles, applied molding oval frame and hand cut dovetail joinery. The chest includes panel sides, split turned banister stiles including ring and ball turnings, and carved lower bracket apron moldings on the front and sides. The back of the piece includes vertical boards. There have been updates and repairs to this chest to include the upper support rails of the panel sides and slider area of the drawers.

Condition

- to fair; the drawers have had bottom of rails updated; applied moldings on the drawer fronts are cracking in places; the top has become warped and is separating at the seams; interior of drawers show oxidation; dovetailing joints could benefit from repair; no key; drawers have shrinking due to age; cracking at bottom of stiles.
