After Emile Guillemin "Chasseur Arabe a Cheval" Sculpture
Item Details
A magnificent sculpture, after well listed sculptor Emile Marie Auguste Guillemin (France, active 1848-1870), titled ‘Chasseur Arabe a Cheval,’ or ‘Arab Hunter on Horse’ and an impressive Verde Guatemala (Ocean Green) marble pedestal. The piece is cast after the original, in pewter and bronze patinated spelter, cast in fine detail by the Barye foundry in the latter part of the 19th century. The piece is a fine representation of both the Orientalist genre and the Beaux Arts era, depicting the proud hunter in finest regalia, his quarry, a kid and goose slung over the back of his stallion. The figure stands upon a naturalistic ground which bears the cast signature of the artist and the foundry mark. The bespoke three-section pedestal, in a deep green marble is classical in form, the top designed in a wide oval, over a heavy center column, a squared base.
Condition
Some chips to the pedestal, one of the sections of the bridle in the horse’s mouth needs to be reattached (seemingly not a major flaw), one foot of the deer is detached, though present, and our huntsman’s rifle is a little bent out of shape; some general finish wear.
