Mogens Christian Vantore Oil Painting on Canvas "Still Life of Tulips"
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas titled Still Life of Tulips by Mogens Christian Vantore (Danish, 1895-1977). The still life painting depicts tulips in a pitcher and two pieces of fruit on a windowsill. Signed by the artist on the lower right and painted circa 1955. The piece is unframed.
Born in Copenhagen in 1895, Mogens Vantore first studied at the Charlottenberg Art Academy, to which he was admitted at the unusually young age of 14. Vantore subsequently studied in Paris (1923-25) where he came under the influence of the Post-Impressionists, particularly Gauguin and the Nabis. Returning to Denmark, he continued to exhibit successfully in Paris while exhibiting annually at Copenhagen’s Charlottenberg Museum. In 1930, he was awarded the Akademie scholarship which enabled him to live and paint throughout Europe for two years. Vantore achieved both academic and commercial success in his lifetime and his paintings may be found in the permanent collections of museums worldwide. His style is characterized by bravura brushwork, a saturated palette, innovative perspective and a compositional structure that imparts vivacity to his carefully-observed subjects.
