A Javanese painted Gunungan wayang kulit shadow puppet. This traditional wayang kulit puppet, which is composed of cut hide, is a Gunungan which is shaped like a mountain and symbolizes the palace gates. It is hand-painted in a palette of red, blue, gold and green tones, with a depiction of dragons, snakes and monkeys in a mirrored composition. The conical shape is strung to a wooden rod down its center.
