An outstanding Persian Bakhtiari Garden rug. This rectilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of burgundy, black, teal, and rose, with green accents. It features a pattern of hexagonal panels and half-panels with different ground colors, each panel containing imagery associated with a formal Persian garden; stylized flowers, cypress trees, and pheasants. Bakhtiari rugs are known for the use of cypress trees and boughs, and this rug features fine examples of the design. Framing the field are three well-defined and symmetric floral borders in the field colors with nice contrast. It has overcast selvedge, with very short knotted wool warp fringe. It is unmarked.
