Hand-Knotted Turkish Oushak Area Rug in Scarlet

A hand-knotted Turkish Oushak area rug. This plush wool rug is rendered in a palette of scarlet, orange, camel, and cream. It features nine star medallions seeded with pinwheels and outlined in cream or orange; these are arranged in a loose lattice pattern over a scarlet field, interspersed with pinwheels. Framing the field on three sides only are two minor and one major border, all grounded in scarlet. The wide border features motifs in orange and camel resembling the corners of medallions similar to those of the field. Minor borders contain meandering abstract elements. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts, one of which has red cotton warp fringe. The rug is untagged.
