A mixed media composition on board titled Irises & Elephants, created in 2016 by Jeff & John Winkle. This abstract composition features a combination of grays, black, and white accented with neon colors including purple, pink, orange, and green. The composition is composed of gestural brushstrokes, splattered and dripped pigments, and smeared colors. A large organic floral shape rendered in black, greys, and white billows from the lower central area anchored by a triangular crevice of bright neon colors. The work is signed to the upper left. Handwriting to the verso provides the artist, title, and date of the work. It is presented in a gray painted wood frame.
Jeff & John Winkle are twin brothers who reside in the Greater Cincinnati area and share a studio in Ludlow, Kentucky. The brothers received their artistic training from Eastern Kentucky University graduating with degrees in Fine Arts. Many of their mixed media compositions are collaborative works that feature abstracted floral subjects and/or architectural structures amidst expressive abstract backgrounds. Together, they create work that balances graphic design aesthetics with Abstract Expressionist aesthetics.
