Paul Chidlaw Original Oil Painting on Canvas Board "Sea Breeze"
Item Details
An original mid-20th century oil painting on panel by well-listed American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900 – 1989), titled Sea Breeze. The paintings abstracted fields of vivid colors applied in extremely thick patches that rize dramatically from the painting’s surface. The painting is unsigned, but a gallery tag to the verso from Cincinnati’s Ran Gallery gives information about the piece. It is presented in a wooden frame with silver tone finish to its face. Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
