An acrylic painting on canvas titled Off Route 1, Canoe by listed artist Ann Sklarin (American, b. 1933). Depicted is a verdant and peaceful coastal scene. Three coastal view windows on separate pieces of canvas have been overlayed on the composition. The elevated perspective and curving horizon line seek to envelop the viewer to enter the space. Signed near the lower left corner by the artist. Presented without glass in a wooden box frame. To the verso is a Borghi Gallery label and a masking tape label.
Ann Sklarin is best known for her close-ups of absorbing subject matter, rendered in acrylics with dramatic lines and space. She began her artistic training at Wellesley College, acquiring a BA in Art History. She later continued her education at Columbia University, receiving an MA. Throughout her artistic career, she has won first place in juried art shows throughout the New York area. She has multiple solo and group exhibitions in New York and reviews in the New York Times. For over sixteen years she has been a member of the Hempstead Harbor Artist Association in New York. Her work was presented in various collections including the Jewett Art Gallery, Discovery Gallery, and Silvermine Guild Arts Center.
Condition
- foxing to the canvas verso; impact crazing at the horizon, above the tree line; note that the miscellaneous paint marks to the verso are not damage, but the choice of the artist.
