Item Details

A limited edition kappazuri stencil print on paper titled Intimacy Red and Black, created in 1975 by listed Japanese artist Yoshitoshi Mori (義利森, 1898-1992). This abstract work features a man and woman intertwined, with the man’s head visible in upper right area, and the woman visible to the left with her hair flowing across the design. Rendered in black and red, the design is composed of sweeping sinuous lines that interlace in and out of each other. The print is dated and signed by hand to the lower left, where a red seal is also present; it is numbered 18 out of an edition of 50 to the lower right. It is presented under glass in a simple black metallic frame.

Born in Tokyo, Mori studied at the Kawabata School of Fine Arts. He worked as a textile design and dyer of kimonos but became known for his kappazuri stencil prints much later in life. His work has been collected by various art institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Tokyo Museum of Modern Art, among others.
